WINTER 2010

With Jack Frost nipping at your nose, Blind Pigeon is going to warm your soul with some good old ROCK and ROLL! Welcome to the new BPR website full of great tunes, great merch and lots of info to wrap your head around. We are looking forward to bigger and better things in 2010 as we are planning to deliver some more of the music you have come to expect from your favorite indie label!

Lets start off with the annual compilation. 2009’s COMPILATION #7 is the latest installment in the ever-popular compilation series. COMPILATION #7 features plenty of rock and roll in a variety of styles to suit everyone’s musical taste. From the funk groove of Almost One’s opening track, to the acoustic carnivore’s delight of Jerry Smith, to the surf reverb of Gleasons Drift, your ears will enjoy what follows. The Meyer Straights give you some bells; Phillsy Philz takes you fishing as La Overtoner checks in with an Athens inspired take on the building block of life. Ace Filipini sings about hopes and dreams as Josh Iverson tugs at your heartstrings, seamus67 wave their freak-flag with instrumental noisy progpop, while Greg Lowe and the Jargonauts take us back to the sounds of 57’ with a new classic BPR track.  Lets add the Americana of The Devil, DPL Sounds, Hillbilly Shakespeare, Desoto Rust and the Worms and things are starting to really swing. Jp, BW, TQI round out the acronyms, Pat Burns takes care of the sweets as Ike Wilder and Daniel Bowers deliver the Red Flowers. Josh Cusatis gives and takes as our old pal and founding member of the legendary Woodsmen, Jim Devlin checks in with his first official release in years. If all of this seems too much to swallow, dig this, the Bleanies will deliver the mail with a new live take on a classic track that delivers a crowd favorite 25 years after it had folks dancing on tables! This is another recorded gem for your collection. Compiled from studio cuts, demos and live tracks Compilation #7 also features something new from BPR. Several of the bands spent a weekend in a barn at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains and recorded live tracks for inclusion on this year’s compilation. Get a taste of how several of your favorite artists sound live, raw and real!

2009 saw a handful of releases from BPR starting with Phillsy Philz. 4-23  features typical Phillsy Philz fare. Phillsy continues to put out strong music that equally references all his mentors, Daniel Johnston, Bob Dylan and Lou Reed while still remaining genuinely Phillsy. Get your copies here at Blind Pigeon Records!

Almost One released their sophomore effort, Beyond Manhannon, and took it on the road all year long. This recording is a great collection of songs that found the band taking more time in the studio expanding their sound and reaching in different directions. I’m sure you will enjoy the result. And stay tuned as the band gets ready to start tracking their follow-up release, which we hope to have by years end.

The Pony Bottles released their sophomore effort Insert Quarter this past Summer to rave reviews. Insert Quarter is what we have come to expect from the band, a shot of POP, a dose of ROCK with a tablespoon of 3 part harmonies. Grab a copy of "Insert Quarter" as soon as you can.

The Meyer Straights released their first full length, Second Son. A limited edition run of a hand cut/folded cd package that is really above and beyond anything we have released yet at BPR. A beautiful package complimented by some great tunes. Nick’s music is an intricately layered affair worthy of anyone’s album collection. It easily slides from pop to rock all the while being uniquely his own concoction of melodic tunesmithing. Check out this DIY gem!

seamus67 has released their debut CD Cool Yellow Pig. This recording is a collection of instrumental noisy guitar prog/pop that has hints of jazz floating throughout its spacey grooves. Be sure to pick up a copy for your listening pleasure.

Expect more releases this year as Gleasons Drift and Almost One are currently in the studio. We pride ourselves on delivering quality ROCK and ROLL here at BPR and this year will be no different than any other.

The new and improved Shelf Rock Recording Studio is up and running again in a brand new location offering quality recording for blue-collar bands. Contact jerry@blindpigeonrecords.com for info and rates.

And lastly don’t forget you can hear many of your favorite BPR tracks on the BPR RADIO! Located in the lower left hand corner of this page just click play and ROCK your day away as you listen to a smattering of BPR classic tracks!

If you would like to be included on the BPR mailing list or if you have any ideas, suggestions, artwork or images you would like to share, drop us a line here at blindpigeon@blindpigeonrecords.com. We love receiving pix, videos and especially feedback.

Keep supporting live music, original music, local music. We all appreciate your support and look forward to keeping some genuine music in your speakers.
